Focal Point

09/25/12

I took the picture of the cow over the summer and it demonstrates emphasis by isolation. The cow stands out from the background. The cow is also a darker color than the rest of the photo. The picture of the apple is an image that I created in photoshop. This photo has both emphasis by isolation and a focal point. The black circle stands out from the rest of the circles. It grabs our attention and gives extra emphasis on the black circle.

Poster Design

09/20/2012

This is a good example of a well designed poster. The pencils in the background symbolize the meaning of "individuality." Three of the pencils are straight up and one pencil is different from the others. That shows the "individuality" and also symbolizes "Don't be afraid to be different." The words are centered in the middle of the poster and the pencils are placed in the background. This doesn't distract the reader from the message or image. The "i" in individual is white while the other letters are in black, which is also another example of the meaning of the poster.

Objectified

09/18/12
Today we watched Objectified and there were several designers mentioned. One of the designers was Johnathan Ive. He is a designer for Apple. I liked what he said about how you can tell some objects purpose by the way they are designed. For example, the spoon and chair's purpose can be understood by their shape. Yet, the Apple products are not designed to fit their purpose. The first picture is of Johnathan Ive and his design for the Apple IPhone. The second picture is of my alarm clock, which has good design.

Poster Project

09/13/12

I chose Jane Austen because she is one of my favorite authors. She was an English novelist who wrote works of romantic fiction. My two favorite books that she wrote are Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.

Grid

09/11/12

This building uses a grid system to make sure its windows are in line. This is a tight grid and is a picture of Sherwood building. The second image is a picture of my notebook. The design on the front of the notebook is done using a loose grid system. The pink dots are in a line, yet they are not perfectly aligned.

Repetition of Form

09/06/12

This is an example of repetition of form. The shapes are repeated over and over again. The black shapes create the outline of the white shapes as well. And the green line is the outline of one big entire shape.

Everyday Gestalt

 09/04/12

These images are both examples of Gestalt images found in everyday places. The first picture is of a keyboard. The individual keys are seperate shapes, yet there outlines form another distinct shape. The second picture is of the roof in an elevator. The circles are distinct shapes yet they also online a bigger shape. Both of these pictures show Gestalt's principle of unity.
